"An Introduction to Double-layer Theory" is a DOS-based computerized tutorial that provides details of the derivation of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation for non-overlapping double layers and for the Boltzmann Equation. It also permits the user to observe changes in the double-layer distribution of potential versus distance from the surface as affected by surface potential, counter-ion valence, ionic strength, dielectric constant, and temperature. The distribution may be presented in either graphical or tabular format.

 

Instructions for download:

 

Click here, then either open the file and extract it into a directory of your choice; or, save it and extract it into the directory of your choice.

In the directory chosen, execute the program by clicking on "DLVO.bat"

Erratum: Note that an error exists in the program on Page 34a. A "+1" was omitted from both the numerator and the denominator on the right-hand side of the equation. The correct equation is given on Page 47.
